Find out what inspires the creator of The Style Line and how she has utilized social media to grow her business.
Hi there! My name is Rachel Schwartzmann and I am the Founder and CEO of The Style Line. We are a media company dedicated to showing the impact personal style has in our lives. Since our inception, the concept and even the name itself have been inspired by the idea of exploration–similar to the movement of a train–the idea has been to travel through communities on a global scale "stopping" at each place to share the stories and showcase the style of that respective neighborhood. Through storytelling and community-building, our mission is to show that creative elements like fashion, style and art play an important role in some of the world's bigger conversations. We hope our stories and partnerships show young creative people that they can leave an imprint in the world... Simply by doing what they love. You can see more of what we've been up to along with select press and partnerships as well as industry testimonials. In October 2015, we also launched The Style Line's first subsidiary company, an in-house content consultancy called CONNECT(ED)ITORIAL, which lends our expertise in storytelling/editorial and blog content creation to our clients. In a nutshell, I started The Style Line as a high school senior on Tumblr as something to include in college portfolios. I grew up in New York and really utilized the city's network to launch the initial platform - fast forward to the summer before my junior year of college, I saw a grander vision for what the site (and ultimately the company) could be and I decided to relaunch and form the company. That was three and a half years ago and I'm excited to continue building The Style Line to its full potential!
That you CAN leave an imprint in the world simply by doing what you love.
Social Media has been a huge tool from a business perspective as it has allowed me to build and connect with our global contributor base (we now work with about 10 active contributors in the U.S., Canada and Europe on all of our content). When it comes to tips and tricks, I always prefer posting original content -- if you can get it somewhere else why would anyone come to you?! Also, keeping some element of consistency, whether it's a color palette, content theme, etc., is always helpful!
Thank you so much! We like to feature anyone who we believe can speak to our mission, which is to be a premiere resource that shows the next generation of style mavens/creatives that they can leave an imprint in the world simply by doing what they love, in a unique way. Often times we're tackling topics that pertain to sustainability, human rights, entrepreneurship, and small business ownership told through the lens of personal style - needless to say, these conversations are complex in today's day and age. So, if we can showcase the story of a young stylish woman in pursuit of her dreams while also considering how her actions affect the big picture then I think we've created beautiful, elevated content with real big-picture value.
The future is female, right? In a sea of click bait, celebrity-driven stories and fake news, we're establishing a space that provides a platform for the everyday heroes - the young people who are working at something because they truly believe what they're doing/contributing to the world will be for the better. I can't think of anything more inspiring.
Stay uncomfortable by putting yourself in situations that will ultimately allow you to grow and allow room for evolution -- I can guarantee that your business will look a whole lot different than what you thought it would when first starting. That's the exciting part!
