TikTok Appoints Former Disney Executive as New CEO
Kevin Mayer, who was once widely assumed to be the next head of Disney, was this week appointed the new CEO at TikTok. Mayer will not only take on the role of TikTok CEO, but will also act as COO of the brand’s parent company, ByteDance. In his years at Disney as the company’s head of Direct to Consumer & International Group, Mayer was somewhat of a golden child as he was the man behind some of the brand’s biggest acquisitions–Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, and 21st Century Fox. Given Mayer’s connections in the film industry and to all its major studios, TikTok could be on the fast track to Hollywood stardom.
Instagram Supports Well-Being with New “Guides” Profile Feature
Instagram this week rolls out its new “Guides” tool aimed at digital and physical well-being by directing users to recommendations, tips, and other wellness-related content curated by select business users and content creators. The new tab located on in the user’s profile section sandwiched between “Posts,” “Mentions,” and “IGTV.” Given the concerns surrounding the global pandemic, Instagram will first focus on wellness content with “Guides.” Creators will be allowed to connect with organizations to share their resources, tips, and wellness content to help users cope with anxiety and other social disorders.
