Small Business Workshop: Getting Your Business Started

    May 02 2019

Last Wednesday, the PLANOLY team hosted our very first workshop in a bi-monthly series of workshops that will be held here in Austin, for both Small Businesses and Influencers. We kicked off the month of April with a Small Business Workshop called Getting Started with Your Small Business. It was held at Greater Goods Coffee in East Austin, and was led by Brand Partnerships Manager, Priscilla Castro and myself - Adriana Contreras, Influencer Relations Lead. Throughout the workshop we covered the ins and outs of getting started with your small business, and discussed topics like creating and crafting your mission statement, mapping out your roadmap (with our Small Business Roadmap), and setting your small business up for success. We also chatted about creating social platforms to further connect with your audience, social media strategy and planning through the use of our content schedule worksheet, and using S.M.A.R.T. goals along with our goal setting worksheet to strategize for the weeks and the months ahead. First things first: One of our key tips for the workshop was to start by reading over and understanding our Small Business Checklist. We feel that when launching your business, it's important to check everything off of this list beforehand. You want to ensure that you have all that you'll need to set yourself up for success before you begin the planning and creative process for your business.

    Key Takeaways Included:

    On Social Strategy

"You can create great conversations through Instagram stories and elevate your content with our StoriesEdit Tool! I try to post a little something everyday even if I'm not posting to my timeline. I also like getting creative with the photos that I'm taking and love providing different content on different platforms to keep my audience interested." - Adriana Contreras

    On Goal Setting & Engagement

"Set up your S.M.A.R.T. goals and keep track of your KPI's to watch your growth. This allows for you to figure out what your audience cares for the most." - Priscilla Castro"Engage with your audience, and engage with the audience of your competitors or other profiles similar to yours. Other people's losses are your wins when it comes to engagement." - Priscilla Castro

For those of you that weren't able to make it to our workshop, we're including all of the worksheets we created for the class below, so you can download and use them throughout your small business planning!
