On the surface, Sakara Life is a nutritious meal delivery service but at it's core, it's a community that inspires a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Whitney and Danielle formed their company out of a personal need to overcome their own struggles, and it helped them to finally see food as nourishment. Their mantra is "what I think, I create", and living the Sakara Life means creating healthy habits because you actually want to. Everything you do has the power to transform your life, so why not start with what you're putting inside of your body?
You do a lot more than just deliver healthy meals. Tell us about all of the services/products that you offer. What does it mean to live the Sakara Life?
D: Our core product is our signature organic meal delivery program, which includes your choice of one, two or three plant-based, nutritionally-designed meals per day, plus our functional Beauty and Detox Waters and Detox Teas. It's all delivered straight to your door, ready to eat! We also offer a range of functional, organic, clean products, including snacks, beverages, and supplements in our Clean Boutique. W: Sakara is a Sanskrit word that means "with form" or "the manifestation of thoughts to things" and that's our mantra: "what I think, I create." Living the Sakara Life means making healthy choices for yourself because you want to, not because you feel like you have to. It means eating clean most of the time while maintaining a sense of balance, having fun and always practicing self-love. It means knowing that everything you eat, think and do has the power to transform every area of your life. And it means never forgetting that thoughts become things!!
You have a lot of unique products. How do you decide on the ingredients to use and where do you source them?
DW: Our Pillars of Nutrition, which we created after a year of intensive research and with the help of experts in the areas of science, nutrition, medicine and holistic healing, guide every meal and product we create. It includes eating the rainbow, getting plenty of leafy greens, healthy fats, nutrient density, drinking your water, plant protein, and body intelligence (i.e. listening to your body). As for ingredients, we only work with trusted farmers and suppliers (local whenever possible!) and source the highest-quality seasonal organic produce.
What steps would you recommend for someone who is interested in getting healthier?
DW: Eat your greens every day! This is the #1 thing you can do to improve your health. And take a daily probiotic supplement to ensure your microbiome (the community of beneficial bacteria in your gut) is balanced; it controls everything from your digestion to your immunity to your skin to your moods to even your sex drive!
How do you stay motivated to be healthy and active? What are your top three tips for maintaining balance in both lifestyle and diet?
DW: Living the Sakara Life is about balance—this is a lifestyle, not a diet! We don't shy away from a martini or some truffle French fries once in awhile. But we believe that you are what you do the majority of the time. Eat your greens every day, but give yourself permission to let loose, live your life and have fun.
- Eat your daily greens... aim for four to six cups a day.
- Take a daily probiotic (we offer a great one in our Clean Boutique).
- Take a moment at the beginning of each day to set your intentions. Think about the interactions you'll have, projects you'll work on and challenges you'll face and visualize them going well. And at the end of the day, take a moment to reflect on a couple of things you've accomplished and things you're grateful for.
