How to Import TikTok Audio Into Instagram Reels

TikTok and Instagram Reels audio makes up so much of today's pop culture it's a part of our vernacular. We're all guilty of quoting a popular sound or song. Most recently, the corn song, and we can't forget Julia Fox's pronunciation of Uncut Gems. From memes to dance challenges to educational videos, popular video audio is a goldmine for content inspiration.

However, it's not ideal for brands and businesses when trending TikTok audio doesn't end up on Instagram simultaneously. Sometimes not until after the trend fizzles out. Our latest video guide shares our #1 best practice for ensuring your business or brand creates and shares the most relatable and relevant video content for all channels.

How to Incorporate Popular Video Audio Across Multiple Platforms

Despite video content becoming the most popular and go-to format for every major platform, TikTok is still where almost all trending audios originate. Sometimes it takes weeks for trending TikTok audio to get on Instagram Reels, forcing Instagram-first brands no other choice but to hop on the video trends late.
By building your TikTok presence, you can get a pulse on the video trends and viral sounds before they get to Instagram. Discover trending video and audio by scrolling TikTok's 'For You Page' (FYP.) TikTok's FYP provides insight into what other brands in your industry are doing, giving you a better understanding of what your audience likes.

PLANOLY Pro-Tip: To eliminate some of the research time, we created a video trends feature to share weekly expertly curated video trends. This list includes popular audio for TikTok and Instagram Reels and examples of how to use the audio in a video.

How to Use Trending TikTok Audio in Your Instagram Reels

What if Your TikTok Audio Isn't on Instagram?

If the TikTok audio you want to use isn't available on Instagram Reels yet, don't worry. You can still use the popular TikTok audio without having to repost your TikTok as an Instagram Reel, avoiding the TikTok watermark altogether.

Once you're ready to film your Instagram Reel, find a TikTok video using that sound. You're going to use this video to create the sound on Instagram.

PLANOLY Pro-Tip: Not only do algorithms discourage posting content with watermarks, but they'll also lower your video's chances of discovery and engagement. To avoid the watermark, record the video you want to share to multiple channels using Instagram Reels first. Instagram allows you to record and download your unposted video without text and is entirely watermark-free.

How to Import TikTok Audio Into Instagram Reels

Step 1: Save the TikTok video with the audio you want to use in your Instagram Reels to your phone's video library.

Step 2: Open Instagram and tap the '+' icon in the upper right of your screen. Then tap the 'Reel' tab in the bottom right corner of your screen. On the right of your screen, tap the 'music' icon.

Step 3: After tapping 'import,' choose the video with the sound you want to import.

Step 4: Instagram will take the sound from the video. Once you have the sound, you need to tap 'done.'

Step 5: Start recording the video using the sound. Tap the 'download' after recording to save your video without any Instagram text or filters. This video is ready to upload and edit on multiple platforms.

Note: When you upload your Instagram Reels, the sound will automatically say "original audio." You can rename the sound to credit the original creator or credit it in your caption or description.

PLANOLY Pro-Tip: After recording your video using Instagram Reels, you can upload it to PLANOLY's video planner and post to TikTok and then repurpose and customize it for Reels, Pinterest Idea Pins, and YouTube Shorts.

Instagram Business Account Audio Limitations

Instagram limits Instagram business accounts from using copyrighted music. However, most trending audio is original and without royalties. If you run into a problem with using audio, try following a video trend that doesn't use a copyrighted sound or use Instagram's royalty-free music library.

We hope this trick makes it easier to use trending video audio in your video content, especially when it's most relatable and impactful.
